with 1.53 ghz celeron, i have two 512 sticks of ram in it now. would i notice much of a difference if i put 2 one gig sticks in it or is windows xp black pretty optimized on one gig of ram. thanks for the advice.

well 2 gigs would just be better since you only have 1.53 ghz processor... it makes your computer faster and it should work much smoother. you only have 1.53 ghz and that is slow so 2 gigs would help out when you have more programs open, etc..

It would depends if your using apps that would use that amount of ram. However I do think that 2 gig of ram is pretty standard.
Go ahead, chuck another gig in if you have money to waste. Maybe you should just upgrade now anyway.
What is XP "Black"?
They major weakness in your system is the CPU. With that processor you will hardly notice any difference if you put 2GB of RAM in. I would look around and find out what the fastest processor supported by your motherboard is, and look on ebay to see if I could find one for it. Even just a Pentium 4 1.6 GHz would give quite an improvement, with the extra cache etc.
Not unless you are a heavy computer/gamer.
