You should be able to disable this through MSN messenger program itself, however you can manually disable it by Opening the Start Menu %26gt; Run %26gt; and type "msconfig" %26gt; go to the startup tab and deselect the MSN messenger.

A good registry cleaner would be CCleaner. You can also disable startup programs though CCleaner.

Does Windows Vista Home have any deployment or networking problems?

We have one workstation set to be deployed among mostly Windows XP Pro computers.

Are there any known conflicts or troubles being added to an existing network?

Does Windows Vista Home have any deployment or networking problems?windows registry

If you are deploying to a network, then it should be ok to install on the network. If your network is running applications, then those applications will have to be looked at to see if they are Vista compatible (which they probably won't be). If you areusing office 2007 on that PC, you need to make sure that station saves all their files in 2003 format so they can be read on the XP machines with Office 2003.

Suggest a few weeks or more of testing before just blindly throwing it out there.

I don't think it has any problem with any deployment or networking because i am use win Vista home in a office and in home and in my office all other computer have win xp pro and nothing seem to be problem. but 1 thing for sure when you first connect internet to win vista from a network it will show that you are not connected but if you repair it from the system tray it will not come up after that.

Can u upgrade ur windows in Safe mode?

I recently had a sofware problem that gives a stop error and shuts down the computer...

Ive found the only real way to fix this is repair windows... Ok so fine... Im trying to upgrade from my windows Xp pro edition from my home edition in hopes of fixing the problem BUT the installation takes about 50 minutes and i cant be on my computer for more than 10 before i get the blue screen.

So i was thinking boot up in safemode w/ networking, and update from there my computer doesnt crash in safemode...

So would this work?

Can u upgrade ur windows in Safe mode?windows 95

The best way would be to install your windows XP from scratch. Boot your computer with the XP CD in and when it asks to press any key to boot from cd, do so. Then follow the onscreen instructions. If your still getting blue screen errors, than your problem is not with windows but with some bit of hardware on your computer. From the sounds of it, it would most likely be a bad stick of ram.

thats a big pain with windows. your going to need a key code. it is saying you have no license for windows. your going to have to buy a new version of XP and use that key code. i dont think you're going to get around it. sorry
Well,

There is only one thing to do in that situation. I am a rep. from Microsoft I recommend getting it legally. Because if someone just e-mails you over the web a Key, that is Illegal and you and that person can go to Jail. But here contact the company listed below and they work with us. Since they do work with us you give then only $10.00 and they give you a legit key. I said you would maybe be e-mailing them and I told them to give it to you for $10.00! Hope everything works out. Oh and I used to own the Company so trust me I know that they will.

if you bought an original XP software but your activation code is denied, you have to contact your customer service where you bought that software. It shouldn't happen!!
For this you have to call Microsoft, click on activate by phone you will get toll free phone call and keep the menu open ,they are going to ask you to read the numbers for them then they will give you new numbers to type in the boxes.

Why won't Windows release my SD card?

When I try to "Safely Remove Hardware" for my SD card, Windows almost always pops up with a notice that a program is using it, even though there is no program that I can find that would be using the card in the taskbar or anywhere. Why does this happen? Is there a way to avoid this problem?

Internet and Microsoft Windows Piracy?

My friend Rachael recently bought a computer from a fly by night computer shop and she believes that the operating system on it, Windows XP Pro is pirated. I checked it and it definately appears to be so.

Is there anyway she can report it to Microsoft or something and get a legitimate version of Windows for free?

Internet and Microsoft Windows Piracy?windows vista home premium

Microsoft is not going to reimburse your friend for this. It is not their responsibility that your friend made a not-so-good purchase.

Ever heard of "Buyer beware"? The first rule of purchasing is to buy from a legitimate seller, hopefully one which has been in business for a while and enjoys a good reputation for support. This is as important, if not more important, than price. Trust me.

Internet and Microsoft Windows Piracy?ie tab internet explorer

no no and no,if you buy an illegal copy, you will not be rewarded for reporting it to be illegal.
Only from the computer shop if they said it was legitimate. Microsoft wont do anything for you. You can report it but trying to talk to them is like trying to talk to the president.
Unfortunately the answer to that is no, you won't be able to get XP Pro for free. This happened to me a while back when I bought a laptop on ebay. I called Microsoft and they told me that I would have to contact the seller. Or buy a new key for $139.00. I did find one online for $100.00 that was legal, you may be able to find it for even less now that VISTA is out.
if u own a licensed version then u have to do re-installation with that CD.

other wise u have to buy new licensed version.. you may also make current installation legal by paying around 250 $ on the microsoft website.. this way u will not have to install the windows again and the current registry will be automatically replaced with registered one by microsoft on internet. plus u will also receive original cd of XP on mail.

You need to have a 64Bit OS to recognize all 4 GB's
if you have xp 64 install that, it make the OS address all 4 gigs

also keep in mind you can have a 64b proc, mobo and OS but if your northbridge is 32b your still not using full potential
What is it ? x64 or x32 ? You can make XP recognize 4 gb in x32 mode, it's an address limitation that can be eliminated but only at a price you, most certainly, are not willing to pay. See http://chris.pirillo.com/2007/08/30/32-b... and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291988

What is the real difference between winxp home and pro?

can someone specify the exact difference between winxp pro and home and what are the advantages?

Also on service pack 2 why did they get rid of the windows xp pro or home designation when you boot?

What is the real difference between winxp home and pro?internet explorer 7

The Microsoft site will give you the benefits (marketing fluff) of one vs another instead of the true difference, but bottom line here is the difference:

For MOST (99%) of the typical home user (surf, email, productivity), there will be ZERO difference. For the 1% and business who want more networking and security OPTIONS, the pro is for them.

What do I mean networking and security options?

Networking: The ability to join a corporate domain (named) to use their resources and active directory services.

Security: The ability to have FULL control of all POLICY options instead of using Microsofts inflexible defaults that will work in MOST cases.

Regarding applications, you can freely load on either without compromise. Whats good for one is good for the other...unless the application needs the domain services from above.

EDIT: Dont know why the common welcome screen changed.

How can I re-Install Windows on a Dell Laptop that did not come with a disk and has corupt WINDOWS files?microsoft

Most new Dell computers(5 yrs to present) have a Ghost Partition embedded onto the hard drive. This makes returning the computer to a "factory state" very simple. To do this:

NOTE: Dell PC Restore by Symantec may not be available in certain countries nor on certain computers.

Use Dell PC Restore by Symantec only as the last method to restore your operating system. PC Restore

restores your hard drive to the operating state it was in when you purchased the computer. Any programs

or files added since you received your computer鈥攊ncluding data files鈥攁re permanently deleted from the

hard drive. Data files include documents, spreadsheets, e-mail messages, digital photos, music files, and

so on. If possible, back up all data before using PC Restore.

To use PC Restore:

1 Turn on the computer.

During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.

2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press %26lt;Ctrl%26gt;%26lt;F11%26gt;.

If you do not press %26lt;Ctrl%26gt;%26lt;F11%26gt; in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart the

computer again.

NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.

3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

4 On the next screen, click Confirm.

The restore process takes approximately 6鈥?0 minutes to complete.

5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.

NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.

6 When prompted, click Yes.

The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that

appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the

computer was turned on.

7 Click Next.

The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.

8 After the computer restarts, click OK.

9. You will now have to run Windows Update as well as Live Update for your virus protection because these will be seriously out of date!

How can I re-Install Windows on a Dell Laptop that did not come with a disk and has corupt WINDOWS files?microsoft access internet explorer

I'd ebay an OEM copy of Windows and install off that. Should be pretty cheap.
To do a fresh install of Windows, you will need to purchase an XP installation CD either off of the web or from a local dealer. There is no "legal" download of Windows.
Your going to have to buy a copy of windows. Make sure it is a OEM copy.

You might want to try Dell and see if you can get a restore disk cheap.
All Dells come with a reinstall CD. It doesn't look like a regular XP CD, but it IS a full Windows CD. It's just not labeled as such. I know because I know that there are ways to use that disk to do a clean install of Windows on even a non-Dell system. There are websites out there that tell you how. (Not that you need that.)

The point is, the system restore cd IS your Windows cd.
If your Dell has a license sticker on it somewhere, I would find another Dell owner and get a copy of their Windows reinstall CD......you still have a valid license to run Dells OEM version of Windows and you should not have to cough up any money.

You can look this up on exactly what to do but I locked my self out one time ( I also have the same computer and my keyboard got wet) and the computer people had me reboot and when it comes up to the black screen you can enter by safe mode and change your settings.

this explains it better:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305
I just had this problem today. I found two possible solutions. However, they both need you to be able to write a CD.

http://www.loginrecovery.com/index.php

This one's a little simpler than the next. After putting in the disk, it gives you a code to write down on the site. Then they decode it and give you the password. Unfortunately, if you don't pay, you have to wait two days to receive the password. I still haven't gotten mine.

This was the other one:

http://ebcd.pcministry.com/

This one didn't work for me as I couldn't get past a certain point. However, this one also has lots of other features. The password changing features are only part of it.

I suggest the first one. It's a lot more user friendly.

EDIT NOTE: this is only if you can't log into any account at all. My mistake. If you can use another one, those other answers are probably better.
one question. what type of pc is it because if it is a dell go through er manual and on her power control unit she has to unplug one harness (u need the manual because i forgot wich wire) and that disables the password

Try re installing the video and audio codecs . or try a free player called VLC.

If codecs dont help then try re-installing the video and audio drivers by first deleting them and letting windows install them again.
It sounds to me like either there's a problem with your DirectX install or a problem with the codecs you're using for playback.

It would be helpful to know if this problem occurs with all files, DVDs only, MPGs only, AVIs only, a specific file only, etc.

Computer won't go past Windows loading page; just reboots over and over?

The ONLY thing I did to my computer was accept the update for IE 7. Rebooted my computer and now it won't work.

The computer shows the initial black and white screen, then the mobo screen, then it gets to the Windows screen where it has the blue loading graphic running from left to right. The screen is up for the standard length of time, then it goes black (instead of the normal Windows XP Pro blue) and the computer makes a click much like it does when I ask it to restart. You need to try and get into safe mode - have you pressed F8 key repeatedly during the boot sequence - this will bring the option for safe mode. If you can get this to work - go into windows in safemode and uninstall IE7 or do a system restore.

If this doesn't work then try boot from CD and doing a repair or reinstall of Windows. If this has no effect either then you're going to have to format. But try all the things listed above and you should get results.

Sonce you are getting the Windows Logo, the computer is seeing and reading the hard drive (good news!!). It is something in the Windows configuration that is causing the reboots.

If using the F8 does not allow you to get into either Safe Mode or Last Know Good, then you are probably looking at doing a system restore or reinstall of Windows from the Windows CD.

Because the computer is displaying the Windows Logo, all of the data ,etc. on the hard drive is probably fine. If you were to take the hard drive out, and place it into another comuter as a second hard drive, you should be able to access it and back up your data. Recommend you do that before reinstalling Windows just to be sure nothing gets lost in the process.

Once you have backed up the data, you can try a restore, a reinstall, or if necessary even format and do a clean install of Windows.

Good luck...
check once more if u can get to the booting options... may be ur timing to press F8 wasnt right..

then get ur computer bak to the restore point if u have set one

or try the last known good config..

or the safe mode..

and then pull the IE updates, better pull the IE itself. .and reinstall once again..

if that doesnt work then I guess, try repairing the Windows with the XP cd.. and if that doesnt work then a clean install of XP may be the only chance.. but before u do that jus do the backup of all ur valuable data by putting ur hdd as secondary up in ur friends PC..in case anything maybe lost during the reinstall..

Gud Luck

ps: wish I had some frm ur Config.. ;-)

What's the best way to check Windows registry for errors?

Symptoms: Black screen after windows logo, does not boot up even in Safe Mode (hangs at Mup.sys listing)

Frequency: About four times in the past few weeks

Temporary Cure: Boot from CD, restore registry values in System32 directory. I do a System Restore, and everything's fine until it happens again...

Possible Causes: Corrupt Registry, Hard Drive Errors (running chkdsk now...)

so I ask you, what could cause a corrupt registry that prevents Windows XP Pro from booting up, (quite frequently)? What tools would you recommend to diagnose this?

Hello Borgman,

Have you given any thought to a Registry Cleaner? I recently used one called RegCure (~$30), along with a disk cleanup and defragment and my PC now runs much smoother.

Here is the site I used. I found them useful for information on slow PC's and registry issues.

You probably have a bunch of programs (or spyware) running in the background. You could try downloading free spyware removers like Ad-Aware, or stop certain programs from running at startup by using msconfig ("Start"%26gt;"Run"%26gt;cmd%26gt;msconfig"). The best solution is usually just to reformat your hard drive, it will do wonders for computer performance. You should reformat about once a year, I think, just don't forget to back up your files. Oh, you should also stop using TrendMicro, much better and faster virus scanners and firewalls can be found for free, such as AVG AntiVirus, Avast Antivirus, ZoneAlarm Home Edition, and Ad-Aware.

Problem shutting off my Windows Firewall?

I have Windows XP Pro on my desktop. It is a local install and the desktop is connected to my work network. I set up the network myself. There is a server a hardware firewall and ten desktops. When I try to turn off Windows Firewall on any of the desktops, the "off" button is grayed out and won't let me select it. Any idea why?

How do I install windows programs in Ubuntu 7.04?

I just installed Ubuntu on a dual boot Windows XP Pro machine. I have a lot of Windows programs I would like to install or run under Ubuntu. This is my first venture with Linux. Using Acronis Disk Director for dual boot purposes.

How do I install windows programs in Ubuntu 7.04?windows update

Most of the time you can't install windows programs in Ubuntu since Ubuntu is Linux based and the programs you maybe wanting to run is windows based. They aren't compatible most of the time.

If you have any ubuntu/linux questions email at support@carbonfrost.com Its free email support to all.

http://www.carbonfrost.com/

How do I install windows programs in Ubuntu 7.04?microsoft excel internet explorer

I've had some limited success using the Wine package for Windows emulation. The best bet is to find Linux equivalents for your Windows software instead.
WINE is (not) an emulator that will allow to run SOME (actually quite some) windows programs under Linux. Keep in mind though that not all windows programs are supported, and that even those that are, some will not run with all features enables.

You better check their information on www.winehq.org

WINE does a pretty good job; and you can easily install it on Ubuntu using the package manager. Give it a try.

That is the easies way to do it; but there are others. There are a few "virtualization" programs that will let you run Windows as a complete operating system from within Linux. But these are more oriented to advanced users. A couple of these programs are VMware and VirtualBox.

You're better off going to Ubuntu's forum too, you'll find a lot of information there and a lot of helpful people too.
The short answer is you can't. You can achieve nearly 100% equivalent functionality and speed. What kinds of programs? games? Office? (openoffice.org) browser? (firefox)

operating systems lie between application programs (what you called programs) and the machine. Most programs are precompiled for faster execution, rather than interpreted (read line of source code, convert to machine language on the fly and then execute) - these compiles make assumptions about the operating system. violate the assumptions, and all bets are off. Often, the programs have 'equivalent' versions for execution under Windows and Linux, but not always. So, the short answer to your question is, 'it depends'.

If I want to setup Windows Remote Desktop Access, which and how do I open ports?

I dont understand the whole port opening thing, do I have to do it on both computers or just on my laptop or? what is it how does it work?

I want my remote desktop acess on windows xp pro on both computers be able to acess each other and detect each other..

What do I do open or forward ports and how? Sorry im very new to this stuff and have completely zero knowledge;)

Thanks

If I want to setup Windows Remote Desktop Access, which and how do I open ports?windows xp

3389 in concerned with RDP = Remote Desktop Protocol

Where as Port 80 is standard http (Web Traffic)

You can change the port number for RDP (but this has security implications :( ie do you want a remote desktop session open on port 80 on your home or corporate PC)

Enable Remote Desktop Connections

The first thing to do is enable Remote Desktop on the machine you want to connect to. Open System Properties either by right clicking the My Computer icon in the Start menu and choosing properties or Windows Key + Pause/Break on your keyboard. Click the Remote tab in System Properties and check the box next to Allow users to connect remotely to this computer.

You can verify RDC is working by connecting from any other computer on your local network.

Configure Your Router

If your router still has the factory default password, change it. While it's unlikely anyone will find your router on the Internet, not changing the password is asking to have it hacked. A strong password of 10-16 characters is advised.

The next step in the procedure is to configure your router to allow inbound connections to Remote Desktop on your local computer. This requires mapping a port on your router to a port on your local computer. The process for forwarding a port varies depending on who made your router, but in general there are a similar series of steps. Linksys refers to the port forwarding page as Applications %26amp; Gaming, most other routers refer to port forwarding options as Virtual Servers. To forward a router port your need to configure the following details:

Application or Description field: RDC

Port Range Start: 3389

Port Range End: 3389

Protocol Type: Both (or TCP if a both option isn't available)

IP Address of your PC: Type ipconfig at the command line if you don't know this

Enable: check a box to enable the port forward

For security reasons, if you don't travel often, disable this router port when you return from your trip.

Change the Remote Desktop Listening Port

For added security of your RDC setup, you can change the default port Remote Desktop Connection listens on from the host computer. This prevents detection by anyone doing a routine scan for RDC. This is also convenient if you want to connect to more than one RDC computer remotely. For instance, I have 3 computers that never leave home. By default, RDC watches the same port on all computers, which means I'll either get a conflict of some kind or I won't be able to connect at all. An alternative is to redirect RDC traffic to each computer.

You can read more about the process in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 306759

To change the listening port, you need to modify the Windows Registry. Locate the appropriate Registry key using Regedit.exe:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentContr...

From the Edit menu, click Modify and then click Decimal. Choose a new port number. In general, choosing a number between 49152 and 65535 will avoid conflict with any other apps on your system, but you could theoretically use any port on the system. Once you set the port number you also need to configure your router to pass the specified port to your computer.

To access your computer remotely, instead of typing just the IP address, you need to type the IP address followed by the port number like this: 192.168.1.1:50001

Test Your Connection

The real trick is you need to leave home to test your configuration, so you don't really know it works until you are in the field. You need to know the IP address provided by your ISP to make the connection (Find your IP address). Visit a local coffee shop with WiFi to test the connection. Launch the Remote Desktop Connection client from Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; Communications.

Enter your home IP address and cross your fingers. If all went well, you'll see the Windows Login screen.

Hope this helps,

My computer doesn't "Microsoft/Windows" Update Properly?

The updates are some office and .net framework updates. Someone please help as I'm afraid that I won't be able to update at all if these ones don't work. I'm using a wireless connection with latest firmware incase that matters. Also genuine Windows XP Pro and Genuine Microsoft Office 2003, everything I have is genuine. The active X controls are updated as well as all other software on my computer.

I went thru an update problem myself before.....the only way to truly get the proper answer is...

Contact microsoft....keep track of every one of those error numbers..(important).....and use those numbers when you contact microsoft.

They will give you step by step instructions on how to overcome your update issues.....trust me....it will work...

Best of luck on that...coming from someone who knows.

Hello ,

Google each KB numbers and open the update individualy and download and install that way . Be sure to click the drop down window at each update and select your connection type . This drop down window will be in the "Quick Details" area . Sometimes I get the same issue as you have experienced . Also check manualy for updates at Microsoft and select to install from there . You may try holding keys ctrl alt while selecting to install the updates . May be your software is blocking them . Also , check the browsers' "Add-ons" see if Microsofts Active Xs are enabled .

Give me some comments for the pic's
I'm sorry to say, but unless your laptop was part of a domain network you're out of luck.

"Unfortunately, unless you have backed up the encryption keys, you will lose access to the data should the keys become lost or corrupt. Since the keys are stored in the user's profile, if the disk crashes, and no backup of the keys or profile exists, and if your machine is standalone, you most assuredly are out of luck." - http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/origin...

"Only the user who encrypts a file can recover data that has been encrypted, unless the user specifies a recovery agent before they encrypted the files. To make sure that you have the ability to decrypt files in the future, you should always export your certificate and private key and keep them in a safe place." - http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/3...

I need need windows HELP?microsoft access

Try starting the PC in Safe Mode. As the computer starts booting the OS hit the 'F8' key a few times. You should see a boot up menu. Choose the 'Safe Mode' option. If your boot and login complete, it means you probably have a driver or system service issue.

If you choose the optional hardware section when doing a Windows Update, you may have gotten a new hardware driver(s). There are many other manufacturers that employ software self updates.

If they've been enabled, you can try rolling back to a System Restore point. You access the System Recovery while in safe mode. Go to Start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; Performance and Maintenance. Click 'System Restore'.

If it doesn't start in safe mode, you may have to boot from the CD in 'Recovery Console' mode and run a chkdsk /r to look for and repair file system damage.

My last resort would be to perform a repair installation of Windows XP. You boot from the CD. You bypass the first recovery option during the install. After that it should find your existing installation. You would choose to repair that installation.

Can i run two versions of windows on one pc?windows messenger internet explorer

If the bios will allow the external drive to be the boot drive you can load XP on it. If not you will have to have an internal second drive. This will sure give you 2 operating systems on one computer.
Yes you must install them on different partitions or HDD's.
you can only run one or the other not both take your pick I stay with XP
create a new parition from the 250gb drive for xp.
You most likely will not be able to run XP off of an external drive, you will need to shrink your Vista partition and create a second one for XP. However if you simply install XP normally you will not be able to boot Vista, you will need to repair Vista's bootloader. Details can be found here: http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista...
Yes , u can install 2 or more operating systems in the same HDD provided :

1 ) they are partitioned and each Operating system goes on each partition

2 ) File system is appropriate for each

3 ) Installed in order [ oldest version to newest ] { Win 98 - Win XP - Win Vista } { get it ? }

In your situation if u didn't install Win XP before Vista , you have to un install vista then install XP then Install Vista { tough luck } { try searching for softwares which help...don't think there are }

also check whether your computer BIOS supports it... { i think it will considering you got pretty descent specs so it may not be an old model }
get virtualpc. i have win98, 2k, xp, ubuntu, mac 68k and dsl linux on the same pc
you can dual boot
One way to do it is have 2 drives and install Vista on your master drive and XP on your slave drive.
yes ... install VMware ... this will allow you to have multiple OS on one machine without the need to partition the disk

for example i have windows XP and server 2003 on my PC using VMware.. best thing VMware is usualy free
You can certainly install as many versions of windows / other OS's but you can only run one at once. Its a bit like you can have two cars in your garage but you cant drive them both at the same time.

Boot Camp on and intel Mac hijacked by Windows XP?

I had installed bootcamp on my macbook pro, as well as windows xp. Later on i wanted it off my mac so i followed the instructions on removing the partition and windows xp. Everything went on ok, however when i shut down my computer, things went from "ok" to horrible. I turned the computer back on and all of a sudden i was asked for a boot drive. I was forced to reinstall windows, only to find that OSX has been obliterated off the hard drive. The bootcamp drives loaded ok, however Mac's Leopard is gone.

yes, absolutely ......
is i got it is slow
I wouldn't.....Vista is a memory hog and you don't have much....if any...to spare.
Nope, sounds too slow.

And from what I hear I wouldn't upgrade yet.

You need at leat 512 RAM, 1 GB recomended. You also need to be over 1 GHz in speed and have a lot of free disk space.

YOu can also expect some hardware problems if they are not Vista ready.
Sure, go for it !

And when you get aggravated and frustrated with it enough it is nice to know that there are much better alternatives like Linspire Linux.

Linux would run like a champ on a system with resources like that but Vista will not even let you install with less than 512 megs of ram.

Try FreeSpire Linux and you will never go back to Windows Vista.
Definitely wait for other software company's to upgrade compatible versions. There is still a tone of bumps in the OS as well. I think some said yesterday it was released as beta, which is still a test phase, and weird if true. There are no great advantages over Xp, some visual components and a very taxing parallel to the UNIX based Mac's ability to give you control over whats coming in to your PC over the web,( a kind of improvement to Active X controls) WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.
NO......your system specs do not meet system requirements for even the most basic version of Vista. Follow this link to see what I mean.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product...

You will need to wait until you get a new computer for Vista. This is probably a blessing in disguise since it will be 9 months before the bugs and incompatibility issues are resolved with Vista anyway.
Not in a million years. This are the absolute minimum system requirments for Vista (which will let you run it but at crap performance):

1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

512 MB of system memory

20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory

DVD-ROM drive

Audio Output

Internet access (fees may apply)

/\

That is the aboslute minimun. Honestly I wouldnt bother even thinking about upgrading unless u have 1 gig of RAM, Core Duo (or its AMD equivalent) and a video card made in the last three years (I.E. Nvidia Geforce 7xxx line) with at least 128mb of video memory (I recommend at least 256mb).

Oh and be warned that Vista Installation is almost 10 gigs if not more. 20 gigs is way too little to do anything worthwile with it.

I would just stick with XP for the forseeable future since you really wont NEED vista until a few years from now.
hi friend

thk u for intrest in vista

go to this link

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product...

long live vista
no, not enough memory, hard drive space
No. don't do it. The upgrade benefits Windows. It was not created to help you but to give them some thing else to sell to you. If XP or Win2K works for you then use it.

At least wait until Vista is fixed and starts shipping with service packs installed.
No the lowest ram required is ram is 512mb.

You have to have a 800mhz CPU.Check here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product...

Look at the bottom of the page.
Never try this. The processing power is not enough for Vista and the amount of MB in your RAM is no way near Vista requirement. If you could go upto 512 MB then you could hardly run Vista, still without Vista Aero.

If it is a genuine XP, go to Windows Update, and it will automatically check the validity and allow you to download the updates.

Para two : The product key can be retrieved with this program

Windows Genuine Advantage Tool , NEVER asks for the product key.

You might be able to check your registry I can't remeber if it shows up in XP though. To do that try this Start %26gt; Run %26gt; type regedit.exe %26gt; Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MIcrosoft\Wi...

If not you can call Microsoft and they should replace it for $10.

Or if its going to be for your work PC, then you might have to contact your IS dept or if you are the decision authority in your company you can either consider the above link or go for the following one: http://www.product-key.com/
