Is it ok for me to upgrade to windows vista?

i am wanting to upgrade to the new windows vista.. right now i have windows xp pro.. I have a Intel Pentium III processor, 598 HMz, 192 MB of ram, 20 gb hard drive.. and i have broadband internet, hooked up with cable... would this be ok to upgrade to the new windows vista???

Your computer is junk!! Pentium III is so old.......Vista cant run on that...Must have at least a Pentium 4, and 1g of ram...Instead of paying $400 for Vista go buy a good computer with it on there...I do have to say I don't believe in buying computers they are junk to me the only real way to go is a custom built one!!!

I wouldn't.....Vista is a memory hog and you don't have much....if any...to spare.

You need at leat 512 RAM, 1 GB recomended. You also need to be over 1 GHz in speed and have a lot of free disk space.

YOu can also expect some hardware problems if they are not Vista ready.

And when you get aggravated and frustrated with it enough it is nice to know that there are much better alternatives like Linspire Linux.

Linux would run like a champ on a system with resources like that but Vista will not even let you install with less than 512 megs of ram.

Try FreeSpire Linux and you will never go back to Windows Vista.
Definitely wait for other software company's to upgrade compatible versions. There is still a tone of bumps in the OS as well. I think some said yesterday it was released as beta, which is still a test phase, and weird if true. There are no great advantages over Xp, some visual components and a very taxing parallel to the UNIX based Mac's ability to give you control over whats coming in to your PC over the web,( a kind of improvement to Active X controls) WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

You will need to wait until you get a new computer for Vista. This is probably a blessing in disguise since it will be 9 months before the bugs and incompatibility issues are resolved with Vista anyway.
Not in a million years. This are the absolute minimum system requirments for Vista (which will let you run it but at crap performance):

1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

512 MB of system memory

20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory

DVD-ROM drive

Audio Output

Internet access (fees may apply)

That is the aboslute minimun. Honestly I wouldnt bother even thinking about upgrading unless u have 1 gig of RAM, Core Duo (or its AMD equivalent) and a video card made in the last three years (I.E. Nvidia Geforce 7xxx line) with at least 128mb of video memory (I recommend at least 256mb).

Oh and be warned that Vista Installation is almost 10 gigs if not more. 20 gigs is way too little to do anything worthwile with it.

I would just stick with XP for the forseeable future since you really wont NEED vista until a few years from now.

No. don't do it. The upgrade benefits Windows. It was not created to help you but to give them some thing else to sell to you. If XP or Win2K works for you then use it.

At least wait until Vista is fixed and starts shipping with service packs installed.
No the lowest ram required is ram is 512mb.

Never try this. The processing power is not enough for Vista and the amount of MB in your RAM is no way near Vista requirement. If you could go upto 512 MB then you could hardly run Vista, still without Vista Aero.
