Computer won't go past Windows loading page; just reboots over and over?

The ONLY thing I did to my computer was accept the update for IE 7. Rebooted my computer and now it won't work.

The computer shows the initial black and white screen, then the mobo screen, then it gets to the Windows screen where it has the blue loading graphic running from left to right. The screen is up for the standard length of time, then it goes black (instead of the normal Windows XP Pro blue) and the computer makes a click much like it does when I ask it to restart. And that's when it does just that, restart over and over, the same way, everytime. System worked perfectly before.

System:

INTEL Pentium D930 CPU,

ASUS P5P800-VM mobo,

Kingston 1GB DDR SDRAM (KVR400AK2/1GR),

Lite-On drive and Sony DVD burner,

2 harddrives (WD + Seagate ATA100)

TT power supply (6 months old)

** Most hardware is quite new; the PS being the oldest thing in there.

I do have Spybot, AVG and Ewido running, so I'm doubting a virus or 'bot.

I can't even get "Safe mode" option.

Any idea

You need to try and get into safe mode - have you pressed F8 key repeatedly during the boot sequence - this will bring the option for safe mode. If you can get this to work - go into windows in safemode and uninstall IE7 or do a system restore.

If this doesn't work then try boot from CD and doing a repair or reinstall of Windows. If this has no effect either then you're going to have to format. But try all the things listed above and you should get results.

First thing to try...

Hit F8 as it's booting. Select Last known Good Configuration.

Then pull the IE7 update.

Otherwise try safe mode.

Your hardware looks fine...good luck
your computer might have been affected by the latest version of spybot or the update might have automatically deleted executable files of the hard drive contact your approver
There have been many complaints about the new IE7. i remember that there was a question before as to how to go back to your previous version. if you can't find it ask a question. sotty but thee is nothing i can help you with except the fact that you aren't alone and theres someone out there who has answered this question!
Sonce you are getting the Windows Logo, the computer is seeing and reading the hard drive (good news!!). It is something in the Windows configuration that is causing the reboots.

If using the F8 does not allow you to get into either Safe Mode or Last Know Good, then you are probably looking at doing a system restore or reinstall of Windows from the Windows CD.

Because the computer is displaying the Windows Logo, all of the data ,etc. on the hard drive is probably fine. If you were to take the hard drive out, and place it into another comuter as a second hard drive, you should be able to access it and back up your data. Recommend you do that before reinstalling Windows just to be sure nothing gets lost in the process.

Once you have backed up the data, you can try a restore, a reinstall, or if necessary even format and do a clean install of Windows.

Good luck...
check once more if u can get to the booting options... may be ur timing to press F8 wasnt right..

then get ur computer bak to the restore point if u have set one

or try the last known good config..

or the safe mode..

and then pull the IE updates, better pull the IE itself. .and reinstall once again..

if that doesnt work then I guess, try repairing the Windows with the XP cd.. and if that doesnt work then a clean install of XP may be the only chance.. but before u do that jus do the backup of all ur valuable data by putting ur hdd as secondary up in ur friends PC..in case anything maybe lost during the reinstall..

Gud Luck

ps: wish I had some frm ur Config.. ;-)
