I have windows XP Pro, and I want to get media center. Can you get it without having to buy a new computer?

You would have to install a version of Windows that has Media Centre included.

It is not available as an add-on to Windows that don't already have it.

Yes. Just type in a google search "windows media player" and many web sites will show. Use the one that is free and without ant excess luggage following. Its that easy.
You can purchase it at www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com.
If you upgrade to Windows Vista, Media Center is included.
Download the newest version from the internet. Just google it.
Windows Media Center is a complete OS. The XP version is based on XP Pro, although some Pro functionality is lost, in particular some of the networking capability. It is only available as an OEM disk. One source is Newegg.

Two versions of Vista come with MCE, Home Premium and Ultimate.

Whether you would have to buy a new computer would depend on what you wanted to do with MCE. In the most extreme example, if you wanted to watch and record encrypted cable HDTV, you would have to buy a cablecard computer. But generally speaking, you would not have to buy a new computer.
