How to disable USB for a user in windows?

How to disable USB for a user in windows xp pro?

How to disable USB for a user in windows?

Open the Windows Registry and open the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentContr... Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Now add a new DWORD called WriteProtect and put the value as 0 to disable write privileges to the USB port. To reverse the step, either delete the WriteProtect REG_DWORD or toggle the value to 1 which will enable the port.

Remember that the above trick works only with Windows XP SP2.

How to disable USB for a user in windows?uninstall internet explorer internet explorer

HOW TO DISABLE IT:

1. Right Click "My Computer"

2. Select and click "Properties"

3. Click Hardware Tab

4. Click Device Manager

5. Expand USB Controler

6. Then Select One of Your USB list item, then

7. Right Click On each, and Select "DISABLE"

Then Poop, They Are Disabled!!

But Be Careful!!!
You can't disable a USB for a single user but 4 all users you can. Go to ur bios set-up and you'll find there a choice that state or list all ur active USB port disable them all.
maybe you could setup a hardware profile with usb controller disabled in the device manager...but the user would have to select the right profile when the machine starts up, i havent worked out how to do it on vista yet but for server 2003/xp etc you go to system %26gt; hardware %26gt; hardware profiles through control panel and click on "copy"...then go to device manager and disable the usb controller by right clicking and disable. now restart your computer, and when you start up you will be able to choose which profile the computer loads, either with the usb enabled or disabled. You can rename then and set which one is defaulted in the same place you created the copy. hope that helps.

also, if the computer is on a domain you could import an administrative template and apply it using group policy view here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555324 obviously if you are not on a domain disregard this information.
1. Right Click "My Computer"

2. Select and click "Properties"

3. Click Hardware Tab

4. Click Device Manager

5. Expand USB Controler

6. Then Select One of Your USB list item, then

7. Right Click On each, and Select "DISABLE"
To do this:

Open the Registry Editor click on the Start button on your taskbar, then click on Run and type "regedit" and click on OK to start the regedit utility.

Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControl...

From there right click and create a new key and name it "StorageDevicePolicies". In the window on the right then create a new DWORD value and label it WriteProtect, give it a value of "1" and users can no longer write to USB drives. To re-enable this option change the value to 0 and users are again allowed to write.

The modifications you made will be in effect after you reboot your PC.
