My harddrive has been reformatted, replaced, and everything reinstalled, the machine works fine for a while then when I try to download or install the new service pack, it just gets stuck at that Windows loading screen. I am running Windows XP Pro.

My guess is that you have a component that is not compatible with SR2. Notebooks are tough because you usually can't just take components out. However:

First boot to safe mode, I'm pretty sure it will boot to there. Control Panel, system, hardware, device manager.

Unistall your LAN, sound, modem, wireless, everything except your video and change that to generic. Reboot. SR2 will reload all of the unistalled drivers with updated ones. You may have to load some of them if Windows doesn't have them but see if the system will boot and load some of them. If so then just load the latest and greatest that you download from the web. If this doesn't work:

Boot your Notebook and get into the BIOS, f2, del or sometimes esc works if you hit it just after your keyboard initializes.

Once in the BIOS, disable your on-board, LAN, Sound card, modem and any thing else that is not essential to the boot process. Leave your on-board video alone cause you need that.

Reboot and see if it loads. If it does then start enabling your perephrials one at a time until you hit the one that stops it. You may not be able to use it or you may have to back up to SR1 and make sure that you have up to date drivers before you load SR2.

I'm thinking though, at this point, you have an incompatible piece of hardware. If it won't boot after disabling in everthing but the video then you may have a bad onboard video and you need a new MB.

Good luck
