If your choice is Home or Pro definately go with Professional.

Full install of XP Pro is your best bet, you will be able to do more with pro and it's more secure than home
If youre using it for music and video go with home because thats what its designed for. I would even try Windows XP Media Center.
Pro version contains few extra things that home doesn't, like networking. Home version is the "poor" version of Windows XP, but if you just want to listen to music and watch videos, then it's good. I would suggest Pro. If you don't buy it you can borrow one copy from your friend or go pirating (illegal). Just install the complete operating system. Many annoying programs come out with Windows, but if you want to install some windows applications then insert the CD and install the extras from there, so you won't get many useless programs.
XP Pro is generally better, especially for networking, but new upgrades on XP Home Edition do not always appear at the same time as on XP Pro. I have XP Pro and I had to wait months longer for the latest version of Windows Media Player.
XP Pro is better. At first I thought XP Pro is made for offices, etc., so it's ideal for work machines and XP Home is ideal for home PCs, so it supports multimedia and games better, but it's a bullshit. XP Professional is more advanced than XP Home, and it can be used for everything you need. So I would choose XP Pro.
