How to stop auto restart in windows?

So I left my computer downloading torrents last night and guess what, it restarted itself because of a recent update. How to I disable this? Its annoying when I leave things running and this happens.

I am running windows xp pro

How to stop auto restart in windows?microsoft project

Open the Control Panel. Open Administrative Tools. Open Services. Right click on Automatic Updates in the panel, and select properties. Select Startup Type: Disabled

start%26gt;settings%26gt;control panel

then switch to Classic view

click on automatic updates %26gt; select Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them
After any update, a prompt message to restart will pop up if necessary. This is a default function in XP and you will have like 30 seconds to cancel it or it will proceed.

There is no setting in control panel to stop that. If you DISABLE the automatic update, you simply won't get any update and you will have to update manually.

There is a way though, to delay automatic restart after an automatic update. You need to follow clearly the instruction given. Go to http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archive...

Hope it work for you and DON'T mess up with your computer. STOP everything if you don't know what you're doing :)
