Two rules for new operating systems:

1. Never, ever, ever use a "beta" version. Beta versions still contain all kinds of things that don't work now and will never work later, but Microsoft can't be bothered fixing them because they want to find out if anyone notices first.

2. Never, ever use the first version. First versions still contain bugs that may or may not get fixed.

Stick to an operating system version that has been in use for at least two years -- at least you'll know in advance what the problems are, instead of finding them yourself.

What do you want it for? Remember it's only a beta and it will still have (more) bugs than the final version.

Plus, some of your apps will not work, so think it through, I wouldn't.
it's never right to install a copy of vista you downloaded off the internet - it's called theft and software piracy.

in technical details, i would never advise 'upgrades' of operating systems, it's normally better to have all your drivers backed up, all your documents, then wipe the hard drive and do a clean install.

beta versions, and also brand new operating systems should NEVER be used as your main operating system, even when vista comes out legally it will be buggy and somewhat unstable in alot of respects. vista has only been testied on a tiny percentage of machines - when the world starts using it they'll have alot of work to do to fix it as the bug reports and security holes roll in.

@dustin m - if he was a legal user of it, with a legal key, he would know a little more about vista than he does.
no-too many bugs and program conflicts.it is not worth it
Vista is not out yet, at least not until next spring.
I wouldn't advise "upgrading" to Windows Visa yet. You will find out that many of your programs are not Visa compatible. Most importantly you are likely to find out that your anti-virus software will no longer work. Better hold off on Windows Visa if you want a working computer.
yes
no i dont think it is, if you want to know for sure ask the experts at the link below
never never try to use beta version. its not for the people who asks questions
To the person who posted the "it's piracy to download Vista" question, Microsoft actually released a "public beta" of Vista, although they kept it on the down-low (so to speak) to not overload their servers, since it was distributed as 2 DVD's (one x86 and one x64 ISO).

And in my opinion, you shouldn't upgrade on any "main use" computer unless you have a VERY easy way to restore (I'm thinking an image of your computer), as it will be very frustrating. Playing with beta operating systems can be fun though.
Am using Vista RC1 as I right this and have to say that I honestly can't remember the last time I booted in XP - almost everything now works well under Vista (and I use an awful lot of graphics software). And yes it sounds as if your hardware specs are compatible.

Having said that though, would be a better idea to partition your drive and dual boot - will provide you with the peace of mind knowing that XP is still there as a back-up in case an important piece of software CANNOT be installed under Vista just yet.

Overall though, have been massively impressed with Vista - and this comes from someone who was considering abandoning Windows for Suse at the beginning of the year!
Well, you should not upgrade to windows vista beta version, because of the bugs, wait until the final release, beta version is for testers to indentify bugs and other complications. I suggest you should waith untill the final release.
Go to www.microsoft.com and windows to Vista. Download evaluation of your computer for Vists readiness. I personally would wait until more bugs are worked out. Do not think you are getting the beta free. When it is released, you will have to pay.
