my pc is PIII 600 M and i use windows xp pro 2003 and office xp and the scan is Norton antivirus

Go to click Norton icon next to the clock and click link right of antivirus title, change the setting from scan application at start by unchecking the box next to it.

It is a risky move, speed trading off security, so before trying it try the following first, defragment drive and Click my computer and right click on c drive, properties, general tab, disk cleanup button, check all those boxes with amounts on the right then ok.
