Will windows xp run fast slow normal on this computer?ireland
Windows XP SP2 will run fine on that configuration. It will run much faster if you increase the amount of RAM. Increase it to 2 GB.
I have a laptop with a similar CPU and running only 1GB of slower RAM (DDR) and an IDE hard-drive. It runs fast. Not as fast as a dual-core system, but plenty fast.
Under Windows if you limit what applications get loaded at start up you can speed up the boot-up time.
Also if you have increased your RAM to 2 GB then I would configure Windows to NOT use virtual memory. This will speed up the entire system.
If you give windows the option to use virtual memory it will use it rather than using RAM. Virtual memory just slows your system down.
Will windows xp run fast slow normal on this computer?microsoft outlook internet explorer
pretty slow
I'm serious people:
If you didn't notice, that cpu is basically crap and ram... 1 GB is what you really need for XP + programs. (XP runs fine on 128 mb of ram, I know, but once you load programs...)
XP will run fine on that machine.
will you at least keep gOS on there too? i've heard it's a decent linux operating system.
I would say normal to slow, depending on what you are doing on it.
jake
Yes, slow. You will need more ram, and a way faster processor.
Just buy a macintosh....it will save you time, and money.
windows xp runs fine on that
512 is enough for it though more is always better at least its not a ram hungry sloth like vista is
the video card is still cack but turn off the eye candy and it wont suffer too much
Windows XP will run on the gPC but it was designed for Linux. Don't expect it to be easy to install it on there. From what I hear it sounds easy enough. Try gOS, though, you might like it.
I'd stick with what you have. All Windows OS's are bloated and consequently run slow. The gOS is specifically for machine such as your and will give you the best performance.
The computer will run medium/normal speed.
