Windows vista & windows 2000 pro?

My win2k pro computer just crashed and need to bring it in, but the question is will windows vista network with win2k pro?

I have had trouble with xp networking w/ win2k pro and i am not sure if the two OS will network with eachother without massive updates and security updates on the win2k pro OS.

Any thoughts or knowledge bases would help.

Reason why i'm asking is i have four other win2kpro comuters and a win 98 computer networked together and need to know if i need to replace the crashed computer if vista would work.

Thanks

If this is an old computer, I would stick with Win2K. There are a lot of devices, sound card, network, etc... are not support on WinVista. Plus if you don't have a fast enough computer, Vista can slow things down--it has a lot of graphics so it needs speed and lots of memory. You can check Microsoft website to see if your system is compatible.

Depends on which version of vista you purchase and how your lan is setup i.e. domain, workgroup etc....
Sure it will. What network resources are you trying to share?

Sharing a printer or a folder in Windows Vista is not much different than Windows XP. I would skip using the wizard when sharing a folder, assuming you don't care who on the network accesses it.
If I were you I would stay with my old system rather then take on windows vista at this time. There are too many problems in networking with vista to justify upgrading to it. Until there is a better solution to their networking issues I would stay right where I am at.
