How can I reinstall original OS (XP Home) after friend installed XP Pro for my gateway 700s desktop?

a friend of mine installed a non-genuine version of XP Pro over my XP Home, and I tried to use the reinstall CD to do fix the problem. I followed Gateway's instructions and tried to reinstall the drivers first but then got a message saying that my CD-Rom drive was not found and ASI-789x was unable to be found. The manual suggested that if reinstalling the drivers didn't work that I should just use another CD and reinstall Windows. However, when I tried to run the XP Home reinstall CD, it said that I would be deleting a newer version of XP )the non-genuine XP Pro version). In this dialog box, the "continue" button is grayed-out; otherwise I would've just chosen this option to continue with the reinstall. Can someone please help me?

You will have to do a fresh install of your xp, that would mean deleting the partition where the windows is stored on right now. Because you have a newer version of windows on your computer will not allow you to ovewrite it, so you will need to erase it first. To do that you will need to boot your computer with the home edition of windows XP and get to the point where is asking you if you want to repair the windows or make a fresh install. So at this point you could try once more to chose the repair option because will delete most files from windows and will install the Home edition, or if is not working then you willl need to redo the process, and chose install a fresh copy. then will show the partitions where you could install windows, so first delete the partition of windows, but make sure you saved everything first. after you deleted the partition, then you need to create one from the empty space left, so select the empty space and choose create, and then will ask you if you want to format and so on. after this point just follow the instruction, and you might need to download some drivers from the internet after that, unless you have a drivers disk too. Any way at the end you should be back with windows Home XP.

just put in your restore cd which came with you laptop. it will bring everything to good and clean stage.
you will need to take the option to do a fresh install and you must format the partition with ntfs file system because you cant install xp home over xp pro, formatting the patition will get rid of the pro version, once windows is installed you will need to run the drivers disc to install all drivers needed by the pc
