Get your original XP disc and use the recovery console. If you don't have the disc take it to a pro.

the first response here is a great start.
Get an XP CD, boot from it, when prompted to boot from CD press any key, do that (press any key)
Wait about 3-5 minutes, it will stop loading and prompt.
Press R for "Recovery"
from there, you will be givin a list of installed operating systems (typically only 1) just press the number and hit enter.
(if you are prompted for keyboard language, just wait the 5 seconds it will go away)
you will be prompted for the administrator password, if you do not have one, just press enter, otherwise type it in and hit enter
you should be at a command prompt at this point.
I would first start by running a chkdsk c: /p /r
wait for that to finish, then reboot your computer.
if the problem persists, you may have bigger issues.
Anyone can do it themselves, it really boils down to weather or not you will give up or not.
