If I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, how do I install Windows XP Professional SP2?
When I try to insert the Pro CD, it tells me that it is unable to install because media center is a newer OS.
Please Help
If I have Windows XP Media Center Edition...?microsoft excel
Media Center Edition is Windows XP Professional without the ability to join a domain and with the Media Center additives. (Essentially.)
There is no upgrade path from Media Center to Windows XP Professional.

In other words - if you plan to slide over to Windows XP Professional (adding the Join a Domain feature and losing the Media Center components) - then you can expect having to do a clean install of everything.
Consider carefully what you plan on gaining by making the slide over to Windows XP Professional from Windows XP Media Center Edition. Do you need the ability to join a domain? You do not gain (as you already have) the ability to use Remote Desktop and do some of the other little things that distinguish Windows XP Professional from Windows XP Home Edition
If I have Windows XP Media Center Edition...?microsoft updates internet explorer
i would just update it at microsoft.com
Try putting the pro cd in and restarting the computer, and reformatting the computer. Why would you want pro over media center. I thought Media center edition is the same as Pro, just with more features. I would check on the differences before i did it.
I dont think you should uninstall windows MEdia Center because it is windows XP but with a few aditional stuff.... but incase just format it and then install windows xp pro.
